XLR IMPEDANCE ADAPTORS
£26
*If ordered separately from a mic order, postage will apply
Recommended for connecting JrF c-series contact microphones, d-series hydrophones (and standard contact mics and hydrophones) to XLR input recorders such as those made by Sound Devices, Zoom, Nagra, Tascam, Roland, etc.
Impedance matching significantly improved frequency response and also avoids interference from a recorders internal circuits.
We've used lots of different adaptors over the years and these are the ones that work best. They work better than transforming adaptors costing a great deal more, however there is one aspect of how they are built that is worth noting;
IMPORTANT;
It is strongly recommended to always hold the adaptor by the thicker section when connecting & disconnecting. Further, we ourselves use some strong gaffa tape (or similar) around where the two sections (thicker XLR & thinner 1/4inch) join. This is because these adaptors, like most audio adaptors, are designed for use in situations where they are applied to a connection & then left there. For field recording & more creative applications we connect & disconnect them more often & we have had a small number of these adaptors come apart at the pressure-join of the sections. They can be pushed back together but do follow the advice mentioned.
nb. this isn't a 'fault' as such. It's simply the design and that we & you, our customers, tend to use them differently. This does mean that if you do happen to separate the two sections we can't accept returns.
